Summary
- Your notebooks are processed entirely in your browser. We never receive, store, or log them.
- We use a tiny amount of local browser storage to remember your theme (light/dark) and language preference.
- We may show advertising via Google AdSense. AdSense uses cookies and identifiers to deliver and measure ads, subject to its own policies.
- Standard server logs (IP, user-agent, page) exist for security and debugging and are kept for a short period only.
- We do not sell personal data, and we have no way to sell your notebook content because we don't have it.
1. What we do not collect
When you upload a .ipynb file to convert it or view it, the file is read by your browser and processed locally with JavaScript. The file is not transmitted to our servers. We do not see its contents, its filename, or any metadata derived from it.
If you don't trust this claim, you can verify it. Open your browser's Network tab while converting a notebook — you will not see any upload of your file.
2. What we may collect
We collect a limited amount of data needed to operate the website itself:
- Local browser storage (localStorage): your theme preference (light/dark) and your selected language. This is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to us.
- Standard server access logs: IP address, browser user-agent, requested URL, referrer, and timestamp. These are produced by any website and are used for security, abuse prevention, and basic operations. They are kept for a short retention period and not used to build user profiles.
- Aggregated, non-personal usage statistics: total page views, country of access at country-level granularity, and similar coarse metrics, used solely to understand which features are useful.
4. Third-party services and advertising
We may use the following third-party services. Each operates independently and has its own privacy policy:
- Google AdSense — to display advertisements on the Site. AdSense and its partners use cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, to limit how many times you see a given ad, to measure effectiveness, and to detect fraud and abuse. You can review and adjust personalized advertising at https://www.google.com/settings/ads, and you can opt out of personalized advertising on participating networks at https://www.aboutads.info/choices and https://www.youronlinechoices.com.
- Hosting and content-delivery providers — to deliver the static assets and HTML pages that make up the Site. These providers process the standard server logs described above, on our behalf, under standard data-processing terms.
We have no access to or control over the cookies and identifiers used by these third parties. We recommend you review their privacy policies for full information.
5. Legal bases (EEA / UK / Switzerland)
Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, or the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection applies to you, we rely on the following legal bases for processing:
- Legitimate interests — to operate the Site, secure it against abuse, and understand aggregate usage.
- Consent — for any non-essential cookies set by third-party advertising partners. Where regional law requires consent before personalized advertising cookies are used, we show a consent notice on your first visit (you can change storage choices later by clearing site data and revisiting).
- Compliance with legal obligations — where we are required to retain certain logs or respond to lawful requests from authorities.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, including:
- The right to access the personal data we hold about you.
- The right to correct inaccurate data.
- The right to request deletion of your data.
- The right to object to or restrict certain processing, including profiling for personalized advertising.
- The right to data portability, where applicable.
- For California residents under the CCPA/CPRA: the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
7. Children's privacy
The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
8. Security
All traffic to the Site is encrypted with HTTPS. Because notebook contents are processed locally and never reach our servers, the most common server-side data-breach scenarios do not apply here.
9. International transfers
The Site is hosted on global content-delivery networks. The standard server-log data described above may be processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States and the European Union, under the standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards offered by those providers.
10. Data retention
Standard server logs are retained for the short operational period necessary for security and debugging, typically not longer than 90 days, and then deleted or aggregated beyond recognition. Local browser storage on your device persists until you clear it, regardless of any retention period we use.
11. Changes to this policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Continued use of the Site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
